Dario Amodei's Wikipedia page did not say he was married until this summer, and it still does not name his wife. A person familiar with the matter says references to Clark have been taken off the public web over time. By the time she approached Epstein he had been a registered sex offender for three years, following his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution. He asked who she was when she wrote again a year later, then turned down the adult film project she was raising for. Clark declined to comment on the reporting, and nothing in the files shows Epstein investing in either venture.

Anthropic asks people to pay more for Claude on the grounds that it judges hard calls better than rivals do. Amodei makes those calls with a small circle around him, and Clark advises him without appearing anywhere in how the company describes itself. OpenRouter closed a $113 million funding round in May at a reported $1.3 billion valuation, three months before the deal.
Talks in late July valued OpenRouter near $10 billion, well above the price the two sides eventually settled on.

OpenAI and Anthropic still carry the reputation for the most capable models, while Chinese labs sell cheaper versions many teams treat as good enough. OpenRouter grew by matching each request to the most efficient and affordable model that can handle the job, and the company said in May that 8 million developers were reaching more than 400 models through it. Its fastest growth came from engineers building agents into their software, which requires infrastructure that works across several providers. OpenRouter also sells backup access when a chosen model fails and publishes rankings of which models the wider industry leans on most.
Why It Matters:
Stripe would inherit that view of which models the world pays to use, and the developers who never picked it are the ones now routed through it. Whichever model answers a request decides how fast an app replies and how much a small team pays each month to keep it running. Most people using those apps will never see which model handled their request or who collected the fee.

Claude Science, the research workbench Anthropic launched in late June, was built for computational biology and drug development, and the company said it would use the product to chase treatments for rare and neglected diseases. Amodei wrote that sofosbuvir reached the market a few years too late for his father and now cures 95 percent of patients, and he hopes for the first glimmers from Anthropic's own work within months.
Why It Matters:
Anthropic is betting its credibility on something ordinary people can check without following a single benchmark. Anyone living with an illness that has no treatment can judge this industry on one question, which is whether a drug exists for it now. A model company reaching that point would change who decides which illnesses are worth the money, and that call has never sat with a software firm.
