Welcome, AI enthusiasts
For years, buying an Android phone meant buying Google's version of the internet. Now, Europe has permanently broken that playbook with a €4.1 billion ruling. The decision goes far beyond a fine. It could change what millions of people see the next time they turn on a new phone. Let's dive in!

Evolving AI: Europe's top court sided with phone owners and locked in a €4.1 billion fine on Google.
Key Points:
Europe's highest court upheld Google's €4.1 billion Android fine.
Regulators traced the abuse to deals that forced Search and Chrome onto every Android phone shipped in Europe.
Alphabet must now live under rules that stripped its own apps from the default position on those handsets.
Details:
The Court of Justice dismissed Google's last appeal and confirmed a penalty first set in 2018, when regulators caught Google paying phone makers to preinstall Search and lock rivals off the home screen. Brussels first billed €4.34 billion before a lower court trimmed it to €4.1 billion. Alphabet shares slipped about 1 percent premarket, and a Swedish court had just ordered Google to pay $1.5 billion in related damages.
Why It Matters:
Android powers most smartphones across Europe, making this far more than a corporate loss. Phone makers now have stronger incentives to ship rival search engines and browsers by default, giving consumers more choice from the moment they set up a new device.

🤝 Microsoft Puts $2.5B & 6,000 Engineers to deploy AI
Key Points:
A new Microsoft business will place 6,000 engineers and industry experts directly inside customer companies.
The $2.5 billion unit is built to deliver measurable results and not sales.
Microsoft says client data and IP stay private and never train its models.
Details:
Microsoft Frontier Company embeds engineers, consultants and salespeople straight into client operations under a banner it calls Frontier Transformation. Rodrigo Kede Lima runs it. Customers choose models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft or open source rather than commit to one vendor. Early clients include the London Stock Exchange, Unilever and Novo Nordisk. It follows Amazon's own deployment pledge by two days.
Why It Matters:
Amazon, OpenAI and Anthropic are converging on the same bet that adoption now decides who leads in AI. For the people inside these companies it means daily work gets redesigned around AI by engineers sitting a desk away. The influence builds quietly, one process at a time.

Evolving AI: Mark Zuckerberg admitted Meta's AI agents aren't improving as quickly as the company expected.
Key Points:
Meta cut about 10% of its workforce while reorganizing thousands of employees around AI agents.
Zuckerberg told staff the restructuring was messy and that leaders misjudged how quickly AI would improve.
He still expects Meta's AI push to pay off within the next three to six months.
Details:
Mark Zuckerberg told the agent trajectory over the last four months had not accelerated the way Meta expected. When the cuts were planned in January and February, leaders were highly optimistic about tools like Claude Code from Anthropic. He conceded the bets on the new structure have not come to fruition yet. Meta declined to comment. Its 2026 AI capital spending now runs as high as $145 billion.
Why It Matters:
Workers across tech have watched their jobs weighed against AI that was expected to replace parts of their work. Meta's own admission shows that even the biggest AI bets can take longer than expected to deliver. For anyone whose job is being measured against AI, the pace of that progress could shape their next year.
