SpaceX merged with xAI back in February, and Cursor gives it a real coding product for the first time. The startup behind Cursor is Anysphere, built by four MIT graduates back in 2022. Once the deal closes in the third quarter its tools will run on xAI's sprawling Memphis data center. That hardware is what Musk is betting will let Cursor finally challenge the products developers lean on each day, like Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex.

🏭 Families fight Musk's AI over TOXIC air

Evolving AI: The Department of Justice just moved to kill the pollution suit over Musk's xAI plant near Memphis.
Key Points:
The NAACP says xAI ran dozens of unpermitted gas turbines near Memphis homes, schools and churches.
The DOJ wants the case dismissed, calling the plant critical to the economy and the U.S. military.
Those turbines power Colossus 2, the supercomputer behind Musk's Grok chatbot.
Details:
xAI has been running unpermitted methane turbines in Southaven Mississippi to power its $20 billion Colossus 2 data center across the line in Memphis. The fleet can push out 495 megawatts and releases formaldehyde and smog near homes schools and churches. The Justice Department stepped in late Monday to dismiss the case saying enforcement of federal law belongs to the government and not to private groups.
Why It Matters:
Grok needs a staggering amount of power and that hunger is landing in real neighborhoods. The turbines feeding it pump smog and formaldehyde into the air near Memphis homes and schools.
