Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang published the letter, titled Open Weights and American AI Leadership, which now carries 77 signatures. It argues that closed systems can be breached or fail without outsiders noticing, and that concentrating capability in a few providers creates single points of failure. The Trump administration has weighed limits on Chinese open models since Moonshot announced Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion parameter system benchmarking near the frontier, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent floated sanctions over distillation three days before the letter appeared.
Why It Matters:
Kimi K3's weights go public later today, putting the largest open model ever built up for download within hours of the letter landing. Running it takes multi-accelerator server nodes, so the first beneficiaries are clouds and inference providers, and smaller open models are what reach a single clinic or a solo developer. Whatever rules emerge will decide how much working AI stays within reach of anyone outside the biggest operators.

Opus 5 costs $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output, the same as Opus 4.8, and is now the default model on Claude Max.
On Frontier-Bench, Opus 5 more than doubles Opus 4.8's score, and on ARC-AGI 3 it scores three times the next-best system, by Anthropic's own numbers.
Fable 5 still edges it on CursorBench at max effort, by under half a percent, at twice the cost per task.

Fable 5 has been Anthropic's flagship model, and Opus 5 came out ahead of it on Frontier-Bench, a test that asks a model to build working software from engineering drawings, though Anthropic says Mythos 5 remains the stronger model on cybersecurity. It also beat the flagship's best computer-use result on OSWorld 2.0 at just over a third of the cost, and a Fast mode runs it at roughly 2.5 times normal speed. One drawing arrived with no way for the model to view it, so Opus 5 wrote its own computer vision pipeline to read the geometry from raw pixels and rebuilt the part in code, something no competing model managed across five attempts.

Why It Matters:

Evolving AI: Unitree's Super Athlete AS2-W weighs about 25kg and stands under a 150kg load.
Key Points:
The AS2-W mounts wheels on the ends of its legged joints, so it rolls across flat ground and climbs where wheels alone would stop.
Unitree rates it for a 16kg walking load, with 80cm obstacles and 45 degree slopes listed separately.
An ISS 3.0 side-follow system tracks a walking person to the centimetre, so nobody has to steer it.
Details:
China's Unitree fits the AS2-W with sixteen powered joints strong enough to keep climbing under load, and a 648Wh battery it rates at three hours and roughly 30km unloaded. Top speed reaches about 21km/h with a cruise nearer 13km/h, and the sealed body holds that pace through rain and dust in temperatures down to minus 20 Celsius. Unitree sells X and EDU models on request, each with a mapping laser scanner and a slot for Nvidia's Orin NX.
Why It Matters:
Unitree has aimed this at work people still do with their own backs, and the tracking removes the operator from that picture, since the robot decides its own footing on board instead of waiting for someone to send a command. For a rescue crew or a hiker the weight moves onto something that picks its own way uphill.
