Welcome, AI enthusiasts
Washington just slowed its second frontier AI in two weeks. After pulling Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 offline on June 12, the government has now asked OpenAI to stagger GPT 5.6, approving access one customer at a time. It is the clearest sign yet that federal sign-off is becoming part of how the most capable models ship. Let's dive in!

🛑 U.S. Stalls GPT 5.6 After Mythos Ban
Evolving AI: Washington has interrupted a second frontier AI in two weeks, this time OpenAI's GPT 5.6.
Key Points:
The Trump administration asked OpenAI to stagger GPT 5.6's release over security concerns.
Sam Altman told staff the model ships as a limited preview, with the government approving each new customer.
It is the second time this month Washington has moved on a frontier model.
Details:
Washington routed its concerns through two agencies, the Office of the National Cyber Director and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. A Commerce Department order hit Anthropic on June 12, suspending Fable 5 and Mythos 5 and forcing them offline, a move the company disputes. OpenAI's gated preview is gentler than that full cutoff, yet both moves put Washington in charge of who reaches the model.
Why It Matters:
OpenAI and Anthropic now ship their strongest models through a federal checkpoint, and because the government plans to clear users one by one, everyday access runs on its timeline. People and companies that build on these tools will reach them only after Washington signs off.

⚡ IBM Just Rewrote AI Chip History
Evolving AI: IBM unveiled the world's first sub-1 nanometer chip, built for the AI era.
Key Points:
A new 3D architecture called nanostack packs nearly 100 billion transistors onto silicon the size of a fingernail.
The chip fits the fast memory that big AI models constantly pull from into 40% less space.
Against its 2 nm chip, the node offers up to 50% more performance or 70% better energy efficiency.
Details:
IBM Research reached the 0.7 nanometer mark, also called 7 angstroms, by stacking and staggering transistors in three dimensions instead of laying them flat. That nanostack design nearly doubles the density of the chip IBM showed in 2021 and lets each layer mix materials to tune power and speed. Functional circuits already run, and the company projects at least a decade more of scaling with production as soon as five years out.
Why It Matters:
The semiconductor industry spent years bracing for the day chips stopped shrinking, and IBM just pushed that reckoning down the road. A higher ceiling on chip performance is what keeps tomorrow's AI tools getting faster and cheaper to run, eventually showing up in lower energy costs behind the apps people use daily. The wall everyone saw coming moved.
The best voice models, now fully orchestrated across all channels
ElevenAgents puts full orchestration on the voice models the market builds around. Voice, text chat, transcription, and reasoning in one integrated stack, <400 milliseconds, and human-sounding. Plug in any LLM, integrate tools, A/B test, and deploy across channels. More human-like conversations, lower latency, flat $0.08 per minute.
AI ACCOUNTABILITY
🕊️ Pope Leo XIV Says AI Is Never Neutral
Evolving AI: Pope Leo XIV wants someone named and answerable when AI harms a person.
Key Points:
No system is value-free once its priorities live in what it measures and which people it quietly ignores.
Asking whether a tool serves good ends skips the worldview already built into its data.
Responsibility should stay traceable from the people who design AI to the ones who trust it daily.
Details:
Pope Leo XIV posted the warning, framing the design of AI as a moral act because of how systems classify people. He said ethical judgement must reach into how a system is designed, long before anyone picks a use for it. For AI to respect human dignity, he added, it must be possible to name who justifies a decision and repairs the harm it causes. The message landed as governments still struggle to assign that blame.
Why It Matters:
Anyone a model has already judged now has a target for that blame, a named person who must answer for a denied loan or a flagged application. For people on the receiving end, that turns a faceless verdict into something they can push back on. The neutral machine defense gets harder to make.
