Welcome back, AI enthusiasts.
AI companies are racing to build more powerful models, but the political landscape around them is changing. Following the U.S. midterms, calls to freeze advanced AI development are growing, while voters are pushing back against the data centers powering it all. Today, we're looking at what this could mean for the future of AI. Let’s Dive In!

01 / AI BAN
Evolving AI: Democrats' midterm victory has revived proposals to ban superintelligence and tighten controls on AI development and data centers.
KEY POINTS
Democratic lawmakers are pushing to pause advanced AI development, including a call to make it a Day One priority.
A proposed AI ban includes penalties of up to 20 years in prison for certain reckless violations.
Of 47 decided local data center measures in 2026, 46 outcomes favored tighter development limits.
DETAILS
AI data centers face construction bans, energy limits, and tighter approval rules. After the midterms, Bernie Sanders renewed his call for a nationwide construction moratorium. Separately, September legislation would create a federal AI department to oversee safety evaluations and approvals for advanced models. Democrats take control of Congress in January, but neither proposal has passed.
WHY IT MATTERS
OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are investing heavily in models and the computing infrastructure behind them. Restrictions on data centers could limit expansion, while training rules could delay future model releases. A U.S.-only freeze also risks letting China continue advancing while American labs face restrictions. Even with stronger oversight, that could weaken U.S. competitiveness. For businesses and users, the practical impact could be slower model upgrades, higher AI costs, and longer waits for new capabilities.
Attio is the #1 fastest-growing CRM on Brex and Ramp
Built for the most ambitious companies in GTM, Attio is an end to end revenue platform that allows teams to run multiple plays across different revenue motions and lifecycles.
Teams at the frontier are already building on it: Granola, turbopuffer, Modal, and many many more.
02 / AI DISCOVERY
Evolving AI: Anthropic used Claude to uncover new clues about a 40-year-old mystery involving protein structures found in nearly every human cell.
KEY POINTS
Researchers mapped the first 3D structure of a virus-derived vault, containing 96 protein copies versus 78 in human vaults.
Claude searched roughly 15 billion predicted proteins for vault relatives in bacteria and other simple organisms.
Claude helped cut vault isolation from three days to 90 minutes and produce an initial 3D model in 34 hours.
DETAILS
Anthropic revisited vault particles discovered in human cells in 1986, though these giant hollow protein shells still have no known function. Researchers found related proteins from bacteria and their viruses can form similar vaults, making the mystery easier to study. Claude helped design DNA experiments and analyze microscope images, but a faulty protocol delayed experiments by two weeks. Scientists haven't confirmed whether these vaults naturally form in their hosts.
WHY IT MATTERS
Claude could help smaller labs use techniques beyond their expertise without hiring more specialists. If reliable, frontier AI providers could become the main interface for scientific tools, challenging specialist software firms. But faulty AI instructions can waste weeks of experiments and scarce funding, so scientists must verify methods and results before trusting and using them.
TOGETHER WITH DATADOG
Evolving AI: Companies are pouring money into AI tools, models, and infrastructure. But there's one question many still struggle to answer: Is all that AI spending actually delivering a return?
Without clear visibility, costs can quickly spiral out of control, and inefficiencies often go unnoticed until the next cloud bill arrives. The good news? Kevel cut its AWS costs by up to $100,000 per month, proving how much of a difference better cost visibility and optimization can make.
Datadog's free guide explores how businesses can take control of their AI spending, uncover hidden inefficiencies, and connect costs to actual performance.
Here's what you'll discover:
Find out where your AI budget goes: See which models, providers, or teams are driving costs.
Catch expensive surprises early: Identify spending spikes before they turn into major bills.
Get more value from AI: Connect infrastructure costs to AI performance and make smarter investment decisions.
03 / IMAGE MODEL
Evolving AI: OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Images 2.6, bringing faster generation, more consistent edits, and greater creative control than before.
KEY POINTS
GPT-Image-2.6 Flare generates images in as little as six seconds at low quality, while OpenAI reports 50% faster image generation overall.
GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst improves image quality and preserves characters, products, and details across edits.
ChatGPT now turns prompts or photos into animated GIFs, with speed controls and frame-by-frame editing.
DETAILS
ChatGPT Images 2.6 lets users save reference photos of people, pets, or characters to reuse later. Developers get image markup for targeted edits, scalable SVG exports, and a complexity setting to control how much the model plans before generating. Available in ChatGPT and Codex, both models are also accessible via the API.
WHY IT MATTERS
ChatGPT could let a small business turn one product photo into several Instagram ads, a website banner, and an animated promotion, use as to update when prices or offers change. That could save time spent rebuilding designs and paying for routine revisions. Adobe and Canva may need to justify their subscriptions with advanced editing and collaboration tools, while smaller AI design platforms face more competition from frontier labs.
