THE DAILY BRIEFING   /   4 MIN READ

Welcome back, AI enthusiasts.

The internet is facing a cybersecurity nightmare, and the past few days have shown just how serious things could get. Banks, browsers, and major online platforms have been caught in a wave of security scares. These incidents aren't all connected, but there's a worrying new factor in the picture: AI. And the speed at which hackers can now operate raises a bigger question about how prepared we really are.

Evolving AI: A wave of cybersecurity incidents has put the internet on alert, as AI-powered hackers carry out attacks at an alarming speed.

KEY POINTS

  • Critical PHP flaws threatened servers running software used by nearly 70% of websites, triggering emergency shutdowns and millions of exploit attempts.

  • Google and Mozilla blocked eight compromised security certificates that could let hackers impersonate trusted websites.

  • Hackers used Claude, Grok, and Kimi to coordinate attacks against 400+ financial targets across Latin America.

DETAILS

A series of cybersecurity incidents has exposed weaknesses across websites, banks, and cloud platforms. Researchers using OpenAI models uncovered PHP flaws that could let attackers take control of vulnerable servers, prompting a global push to deploy fixes. Weak security keys at eMudhra, an Indian company that issues certificates verifying website identities, raised the risk of impersonation. State Bank of India, the country's largest bank, identified 3,897 customer records on the dark web. Cloud-hosting platform Railway warned of potentially exposed customer secrets, while LiteLLM, software connecting AI models, withdrew a malware-infected release. Microsoft also documented a China-aligned hacking group using ARTEX to automate attacks, with some gaining privileged cloud access in under three hours.

❝

WHY IT MATTERS

AI-powered cyberattacks are becoming an immediate threat to the banks, businesses, and essential services people rely on. Hackers are already using AI agents to find weaknesses, adapt their tactics, and gain access to sensitive systems within hours, leaving security teams little time to intervene. For ordinary people, a successful attack could mean exposed financial records, stolen identities, or disrupted services. OpenAI's discovery of the PHP flaws shows that AI can also give defenders an advantage, but finding vulnerabilities is only half the battle. Companies now face growing pressure to automate their defenses and fix weaknesses faster, before attackers can compromise customers' data or disrupt essential services.

The AI notetaker that gets the hard words right

Your AI is only as good as what you feed it. Feed it a transcript with your product names, acronyms, and numbers spelled wrong, and you spend the afternoon hand-fixing the output.

Wispr Flow Notetaker uses your dictionary and calendar, so product names, acronyms, numbers, and uncommon names come out spelled right. It pops up when your meeting starts and captures Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, and Slack huddles with one click, no bot joining the call.

Then your meetings show up inside Claude or ChatGPT through the built-in connector. No copy paste. Try Notetaker free on Mac and Windows.

02   /   CLAUDE AGENT

Evolving AI: Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a proactive AI assistant that can take initiative, handle work in the background, and reach out when something needs your attention.

KEY POINTS

  • Claude Duet is powered by Claude Opus 5.5 and delivers morning briefings while checking connected apps for important updates throughout the day.

  • It can schedule meetings, track unpaid invoices, prepare payroll, and build dashboards even when you're away.

  • Duet supports over 6,000 connectors and plugins, with early access available through a U.S. waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers.

DETAILS

Anthropic built Claude Duet to stay involved in your work throughout the day without needing fresh instructions. It carries over your existing Claude memory and connected apps, using its own cloud computer to complete tasks while your device is off. One early tester said Duet spotted a property showing scheduled for the wrong day without being asked. It still requires approval before sending messages or making payments, and Anthropic warns that it can misread conversations or overlook important updates.

❝

WHY IT MATTERS

Claude Duet is going after the work of keeping track of everything that needs attention, a task that quietly consumes hours every day. If it can reliably spot overdue invoices, unanswered customers, and scheduling mistakes, people may no longer need to check five different apps just to figure out what needs doing. For Anthropic, the bigger prize is becoming the first place people turn to get work done. If Claude handles the daily tasks that bring users into Gmail, Salesforce, and other software, those companies risk losing their direct relationship with customers. Anthropic could gain enormous influence over which tools people use and pay for. But if people stop checking for themselves, they may not notice Claude's mistakes until a customer complains or a deadline passes.

WATCH TIP

Today's AI systems are impressive, but according to Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, they'll be nothing compared to what's coming in the next two years. In this interview, the Nobel Prize winner shares why the next wave of AI could change everything, the risks we're not prepared for, and why safely bringing AGI into the world may be humanity's biggest challenge yet.

03   /   CHINA IN AI

Source: South China Morning Post

Evolving AI: China has launched a state-owned giant with a clear ambition to turn its vast, scattered data resources into a competitive advantage in the global AI race.

KEY POINTS

  • The company plans to provide AI developers with high-quality datasets and text collections for training AI models.

  • Its seven founding shareholders include China's three major telecom operators, two power grid giants, and two government entities.

  • Headquartered in Xiongan, National Data Group becomes China's 100th centrally managed state-owned enterprise.

DETAILS

China has launched China National Data Group to make valuable data held across industries and government systems easier for businesses to access and use. The company plans to connect isolated data networks, develop commercial data services, and turn information that is difficult to share into usable resources. It will handle the operational side of China's national data strategy, while the National Data Administration sets policy. Its exact data access rights and pricing remain unclear.

❝

WHY IT MATTERS

China's vast industrial economy could become one of its biggest advantages in AI. Factories, power grids, and telecom networks generate valuable information that AI developers cannot easily find or replicate. If China can make that data accessible to domestic companies, it could help them build more capable AI for manufacturing, energy, and logistics, even without having the world's most powerful models. That would give Chinese AI companies an advantage in industries where real-world knowledge matters as much as model intelligence. Beijing's ability to mobilize its state-owned industrial giants could give domestic AI developers a head start in building specialized systems that foreign competitors would struggle to reproduce.
